Description: 
Visit prospective foster/adoption applicants in their home environment to assess safety and suitability for adoptable pets. 
Responsible for reviewing program requirements and ensuring proper protocol is met during each stage of the process. 
The time commitment for this position is approximately 3-4 hours per week but can vary week by week depending on how many interviews you are needed for. Note that this position is a progressive role, and all volunteers must finish the home visit orientation prior to placement on the schedule. You will start as a secondary and move into the primary role once thoroughly trained and feel comfortable taking the lead during the in-home interview process. Home visits typically include the primary home visit volunteer, secondary and the foster parent who accompanies the animal in care. 
Responsibilities: 
● Reviewing all adoption applications 
● Contacting applicants and fosters to coordinate a home visit time that suits all parties 
● Review with foster and home visit volunteers if there are any concerns throughout the process 
● Be the liaison between fosters, volunteers and adoption applicants 
● Complete a report after the HV that requires approval from administration before the applicant can progress 
through the application process. 
● Follow up towards middle of the week and ask their intentions for adoption 
● Set up adoption appointments at TAGS, reminder to bring all TAGS supplies back 
● Review all agreements with applicants and receive signatures 
● Travel to each applicant place of residence to hold initial and follow-up interviews 
● Help to train new HV volunteers as they job shadow

The Meet & Greet is Step #1 in the adoption process.  It’s the first meeting between an adoptable dog and his/her potential adopters, and our opportunity to see how they interact with each other. The M&G Volunteer chairs the meeting, supports the foster, provides information to the applicants, assesses the applicants, and 
provides feedback to the Adoption Team. 

Responsibilities: 
 Preparing for the meeting by reviewing the application & reference checks, the dog’s bio, and other information posted by the foster and making note of anything that should be confirmed or discussed further with the applicants. 
 Arriving early to open up the portable and set up chairs if necessary. Tidying up and closing portable after the meeting. 
 Greeting the applicants and introducing them to the foster and the dog 
 Helping to safely introduce the dog to the applicants’ dog(s) if applicable. 
 Familiarizing the applicants with the TAGS facilities (dog park, training portable, admin portable). 
 Assisting and encouraging the foster to provide information about their dog (Breed, age, history, temperament, feeding, exercise requirements, etc.). 
 Interviewing the applicants using questions provided on the Meet & Greet Questionnaire 
 Observing how the applicants, their children and dogs interact with the foster dog. 
 Providing the applicants with info about TAGS and the steps in the adoption process: The M&G, The Home Visit, EV, and FTA 
 Explaining the mandatory Training Classes and what’s covered 
 Discussing TAGS’s holistic approach to health care, and providing information on the dangers of flea, Tick and heartworm meds, and over vaccination. 
 Explaining the adoption fees and what’s included. 
 Determining - with the foster’s input - whether or not the applicants are suitable for the dog based on their interview answers, their ability to meet the dog’s needs, how they interacted with the dog, etc. 
 Providing a report to the Adoption Team with a synopsis of the meeting, any concerns, and an opinion on whether or not the adoption should move forward.

GOAL for this position:

As a Housekeeping volunteer, your role will be to provide hands-on support to our busy animal centre.

Although this role does not directly work with the animals, this role does contribute to their health and wellbeing. The ripple effect of ensuring these tasks are achieved extends far beyond the immediate results of your efforts, to have a lasting impact on creating healthy environments for our furry friends, staff and the volunteers who care for them.

Volunteer Role:

  • Clean and disinfect identified areas of the animal centre
  • Perform laundry tasks, folding, sorting, and storing.
  • Wash dishes, toys, bottles, bowls, leashes and collars
  • Assist with stacking and storing deliveries, such as food and litter.

Skills Requirement:

  • Bending, standing, reaching, along with occasional lifting up to 30lbs.
  • Ability to follow specific centre cleaning protocols 
  • Desire to learn how to use commercial equipment, such as a washer, dryer, and dishwasher.

Time Commitment:

We recognize your time donation to being a volunteer. Therefore, we support a customized approach to your schedule to best suit your availability. The Volunteer Development Team will always be available to offer support and guidance.  You will also have direct access to our online community, where you can find organizational updates, posted information and contact information for your staff partners.

Between puppy mills, owner surrenders and dogs from our Northern communities we are in an animal crisis and the need for foster homes has never been greater. We want to help as many as we can and can't do it without your help. The Animal Guardian Society (TAGS) provides everything you need in both materials and support. You will be supplied with crates, leashes, food and whatever else you need. In addition you will have access to a great support network of volunteers and trainers! You can be the difference between life and death for these innocent animals.

This role is accountable to coordinate the intake of dogs/cats from puppy mills, Manitoba, Northern Ontario, breeder surrenders, shelters, and some owner surrenders by placing them with suitable foster homes. This role works closely with the FosterCoordinator and the Assistant Foster Coordinator to find appropriate foster homes and works with transport teams to coordinate getting the dogs/cats to our fosters.

This position also plays a critical role in creating and maintaining relationships with third party contacts at other rescue/networks who support finding animal placements at various rescues/shelters as well as transportation connections such as Freedom Drivers and Critter Cabs. 

Access to a vehicle and ability to travel within Durham Region is required. It is the responsibility of the Intake Coordinator to meet up at the intake location to meet the animals that come into the program to assess their state and temperament prior to handing them over to their fosters. 

The time commitment for this position varies week by week; effort and time is required during intake to properly manage securing foster homes, coordinating transport and facilitating intake when the animals arrive at the meet up spot. approximately 1-2 hour daily until intake is completed. Flexibility and time management skills are crucial.

Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary is the only monkey sanctuary in Canada. We are verified by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.
