WhitbyVolunteers at Sunrise Developmental Support Services’ New Year’s Eve Overnight Bash will have a variety of roles depending on their shift:

Pre-event / Setup (Day-time Dec. 31st): Assist with decorating, moving and setting up tables, and food preparation.

Glamour Hour (Dec. 31st from 5-6pm): Help members as they arrive for early hair and makeup in preparation for the evening festivities.

During the Event (Starts at 6pm): Join in the fun with our members as they enjoy a “Night in Vegas” theme — including dancing, karaoke, card and board games. Volunteers may also help facilitate table games; guidance will be provided for any unfamiliar games, or volunteers can be assigned an alternative task.

Support: Volunteers are not responsible for personal hygiene, but should notify staff if a member requires assistance.

Overnight / Morning: Volunteers may stay overnight to assist with morning preparations, including setting up and serving a fresh brunch.

Pack-up / Follow-up: Assist with cleaning up and packing up at the cabin. Volunteers who accompany staff back to Sunrise’s main building to unpack equipment and supplies will earn an extended 2 volunteer hours.
Volunteers will be provided with food, beverages, and support throughout their shift.
Help coordinator develop tasks * evaluate client success * assist with daily life skills * initial training of new individuals * promote client independence and socialization
Supporting members throughout a variety of events including:
- Art Workshops
- Dances
- Cooking Classes
- Weekend Cabin Retreats - at Camp Samac
- Bowling Nights
- Dinner & Movie Nights
Duties during events include
- engaging with members in a friendly socializing role
- contributing to a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment by respecting all individuals including members, staff & volunteers from different walks of life and varied abilities
- promote appropriate life and social skills
- encourage members to participate in events through positive energy and participation
- assisting members to ensure they're included in programs i.e., holding knife while member places hand over top of yours to assist with cutting food items
- supporting staff in set up and clean up of events including: whiping down tables/counters, dishes, decorating, moving furniture, changing garbages etc.
Facilitate Game On,program for young men 12 to 14 * promote Literacy program, self-esteem and sports activities * provide guidance, attention, praise and advice * promote importance of staying in school and healthy relationships with family and peers
Our weekly event requires: A Marshall - to help direct the runners at turnpoionts
A Timer - will need a smartphone and be able to download the timing app which will be used to time the prticipants for their 5K wlak/run/jog
A scanner - will need a smartphone to use the app to scan barcodes at the end of the event
A tailwalker - will be walking the course, following the last participant. Will act as course 'sweep' as well as pick up signage.
A variety of volunteer opportunities available to assist with weekly timed 5 km run on the Duffins Trail * marshal, photography * setup, tear-down * timer, scanning, finish tokens * other tasks as needed
Looking for: Peer mentors with adults with Autism * Hub Hosts (welcoming members and doing games ,crafts, etc with them) * volunteers with a special talent who would like to share with our members running a program * volunteer teams needed for helping at the red Barn Bingo Hall monthly or bi-weekly.
Facilitate Go Girls, program for girls 10-14 to learn about food and nutrition * provide guidance, attention, praise, and advice to instill trust and self-confidence * promote the importance of staying in school and healthy relationships with family and peers
