In home Volunteer Angels provide childcare support for parents who have been diagnosed with cancer, for those requiring palliative care, and for families requiring additional relief during the bereavement period to help reduce any stress or anxiety they may be experiencing due to their parent’s illness or death.

By meeting weekly, building trust, and having fun, our Angels help parents gain the confidence and peace of mind to rest or attend medical appointments, knowing their children are cared for and supported by knowledgeable and compassionate volunteers.

Swim with a Buddy Volunteers will help young children become comfortable in the water. 

Swim with a Buddy takes place every Tuesday & Friday evening at our Eastview location -- 433 Eulalie Ave., Oshawa.

Volunteers must meet the following requirements:

• Be at least 14 years of age
• Provide 2 references (neither can be from family members)
• Able to swim and comfortable in the water
• Commit to a schedule based on volunteer's availability
• Volunteers over 18 years old require a Vulnerable Sector check

Game night volunteers are tasked with greeting fans to games, selling tickets, merchandise and selling and running frisbee toss activities for young fans. Also, checking tickets at entrances to the arena. All under supervision.

Help our renowned Learning and Engagement Department deliver a variety of educational programming including children's art classes, March Break camp, Summer Camp OPG Sunday and more! Assisting the Learning and Engagement Department is an excellent way to learn about a range of artistic techniques and practices, as well as gain valuable practical experience working with children of all ages. BINGO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Help out our animals in a fun & social way by helping us out at charity bingo! Bingo happens in the afternoons at the Red Barn in Oshawa. Duties include counting bingo card inventory, handling cash and selling bingo cards.

Our weekly event requires:  A Marshall - to help direct the runners at turnpoionts

A Timer - will need a smartphone and be able to download the timing app which will be used to time the prticipants for their 5K wlak/run/jog

A scanner - will need a smartphone to use the app to scan barcodes at the end of the event

A tailwalker - will be walking the course, following the last participant. Will act as course 'sweep' as well as pick up signage.

The volunteers will help our Coaches with on and off court duties such as but not limited to, support campers on court and around camp site, provide guidance during camp activities.

Be a part of a team of museum village gardeners * assist in the research, planning, planting, and maintenance of the heritage gardens

The Oshawa Skating Club is proud to be offering Skate Canada's CanSkate program, a learn to skate program that is proven to help learners develop strong basic skills faster while having fun!

Program Assistants help support beginner skaters during our learn to skate programs. Members of the community who know how to skate and who enjoy working with children are welcome to volunteer.

• Adults that are interested in helping out will need to provide a vulnerable sector background check. Contact us for an endorsment letter to get this done for free. 
• High school students can earn community hours.

• Conduct guided tours for visitor groups of all ages, sharing stories and insights about our exhibits.

Volunteer Food Educators support the TCEP staff team in delivering food literacy programs at our food education center and around the community. Attending a mandatory intake meeting with the Recreation Manager along with a 2-day training sometime in July. 

Support adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities in a Camp setting, bringing them to activities around camp, ensuring to attend to their emotional needs, acting as a support "friend-like" role.

Assist with daily routines including but not limited to: clothing changing, teeth brushing, showering, supporting toileting (whiping, accidents causing clothing changes from soiling).

Report any issues, concerns, behaviours etc. to a staff or the recreation manager. 

Attend daily volunteer meetings to discuss days' events, things to note of or check ins/debriefs.

Ensure members are brought to meal times (9am, 1pm & 6pm)

Ensure members who have medications receive them whether in the dining hall during meal times to brought to the nurse's cabin. Ensuring member's health is mantained and brought to the nurses for any potential concerns i.e., cuts, falls, heat exhaustion, pain, etc.

We have current openings for Child/Youth Volunteers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children 4-13 yrs. old)

2 shifts per month (approx. 8 hr. commitment)

Saturday Only.  Mornings- 8:45 am-12:45 pm and afternoons- 1:15pm to 5:15pm

What would your typical day look like?

·         set up area prior to children arriving

·         Provide one on one supervision – a volunteer with one ASD child.

·         Helping the child choose their activities and develop socialization skills through fun learning.

·         After the session: Clean up and sanitize toys, debrief.

Ideal for high school students interested in working with ASD or adults with ASD children or have an interest in working with ASD, gaining experience for post-secondary students including ECE, Social Work/Service, Psychology students, Teachers for example.

What can I expect from being a FOOTPRINTS Volunteer?

Volunteering with ASD children is a contribution to the community and one of the most rewarding experiences.

Whether our volunteers are supporting recreation activities, helping out at a special event, or offering companionship to a resident, these acts of volunteerism and kindness make a big difference in the lives of the people who call Revera home. • Assist with recreation activities & events
• Support with meals & dining experience
• Participate in organized programs & clubs

• 1-2 hours per week or spend a day with the rec staff 

 Support the visitors' program experience by assisting with crafts and activities, way finding, building interpretation, setup/take down.  

Provide excellent customer service to all Whitby Courthouse Theatre patrons in roles such as ushering, concessions sales, ticket scanners, etc.

Support residents at meal time * assist residents to eat their meals, use safe feeding techniques, monitor residents eating/drinking while observing dietary requirements * encourage interaction and conversation with those at table

Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) has volunteer and non-paid work experience opportunities for a variety of volunteers such as secondary and post-secondary students,  corporate opportunities,  festival events (Durham Children's Watershed Festival and Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival) and the Conservation Area Trail Stewards (CATS) program.
