Durham RegionDurham Youth Services receives a portion of the proceeds from the charitable gaming at Delta Bingo and Gaming in Pickering. We use the funds to provide a variety of life skills programs to our residents as well as to pay for some of our utilities.
Volunteers work in pairs for a 2-hour shift at Delta Bingo and Gaming in Pickering.
The primary role is to circulate through the bingo and gaming hall and ensure the play areas look tidy and inviting. You can choose as many or as few shifts as you like. We will do our best to accommodate. You can choose your shift(s) several months in advance, once the schedules have been provided to DYS. You do not handle money.
Dress Code You are required to wear black dress pants (no denim, track pants, or shorts) footwear should be tasteful and comfortable – no flip flops. No hats, unless it is for medical or religious reasons. Shirts will be provided for shifts as well as a name tag, both of which must be worn all times during the shift.
A one-hour online training session is mandatory prior to any bingo assignment.
Nightstop is an alternative to shelter that adopts a preventative approach to homelessness by intervening at an early stage of crisis in order to help youth secure safe temporary housing, avoiding the shelter system or sleeping “rough” on the streets.
The program engages the community to act as “Hosts” for young people who have nowhere else to go and who have successfully passed a thorough risk assessment.
Community members help prevent that first night in shelter by offering a spare room and meals for short-term stays. Hosts and youth continue to be supported by DYS staff every step of the way.
Hosts are responsible for providing a private bedroom, access to laundry and bathroom facilities, as well as three meals (dinner, breakfast, and a packed lunch).
