Durham RegionThe Virtual Dementia Tour Guide works in collaboration with the Public Education Team to deliver simulated experiences for clients and the general public on what it may feel like to live with dementia.
Duties include;
Set up of experience room, welcome registrants, ensure consent forms are completed, provide equipmentobserve in experience room.
Report volunteer hours, follow incident report protocol when needed, repect and adhere to the policies and procedures/privacy and confidentiality of the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region.
Time commitment is 3-4 hours per shift.
Must possess or obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Check.
Must experince the tour as a particiapant before volunteering.
General volunteers do a variety of tasks including food service * dispensing pantry goods * monitoring washrooms * coat check * and various other odd jobs.

We are a not for profit registered charity organization. Directors participate in monthly meetings including administrative duties, fundraising initiatives, public events and approval of successful crime stoppers tips.

Position Summary: Art with a Heart Inc. is seeking individuals to join its Board of Directors. Board members play a crucial role in providing strategic guidance, governance oversight, and support for the organization's mission and activities. This volunteer position offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth and impact of an organization dedicated to using the Arts as a catalyst for positive change in peoples lives.
Key Responsibilities
Depending upon experience and interest, individuals could take on one or more of the following responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Participate actively in strategic planning and decision-making processes to ensure the organization achieves its mission and goals.
- Governance Oversight: Provide fiduciary oversight and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Fundraising and Advocacy: Support fundraising efforts and advocate for the organization's mission in the community.
- Networking and Relationship Building: Leverage personal and professional networks to create opportunities for collaboration and growth.
- Committee Involvement: Serve on board committees as needed, such as finance, governance, fundraising, or program committees.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to the mission and values of Art with a Heart Inc.
- Experience in nonprofit governance, leadership, or relevant fields (e.g., arts administration, social services, business management).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and make informed decisions.
- Availability to attend board meetings, committee meetings, and special events as required.
Sunshine Therapy dogs is a group of dog lovers sharing a concern for those suffering from emotional and mental illnesss and a belief that the company of dogs can help.
Volunteers will visit community agencies, schools and other ogranizations that would benefit from our visits.
Oshawa Little Theatre (OLT), a non-profit community theatre, is seeking experienced, volunteer Props Leads for each of three musical theatre productions in its upcoming 2025-2026 season: "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", "Shrek" and "The Full Monty". Leads for the first two shows are needed almost immediately for part-time volunteer hours, reporting to the respective Production Teams.
Property Leads should be able to:
- identify, with Production teams, cast and script, all props requires for production
- lead Props Assistants to meet production schedule
- research, source and acquire props from a variety of sources
- with Props Asssistants, design and craft props which may need to be handmade, using a variety of media
- be available as needed (with some flexibility and independence of action) through rehearsal period and for show run of 3-4 weekends to assign, organize and oversee props by scene and character
- work within production budget for props
EmpowHER is a dynamic leadership and mentorship program designed to equip young women and LGBTQ2+ individuals (ages 12–30) with the skills, networks, and opportunities to excel in their chosen fields. This hybrid program (both virtual and in-person) provides hands-on experiences with civic action.
EmpowHER is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected refugees who are passionate about civic engagement and making a meaningful impact in their communities. Participants will engage in real-world projects, leadership training, and mentorship opportunities that foster growth and empowerment.
The Peer Support Volunteer plays a vital role in providing compassionate, empathetic support to individuals and families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Volunteers offer a listening ear, shared understanding, and companionship on the grief journey, creating a safe space for bereaved individuals to express their feelings, share memories, and receive validation from someone who “gets it.” By joining our team, you’ll help ensure that no one has to grieve alone.
Responsibilities:
- Provide emotional support through one-on-one phone calls, online meetings, or in-person (as appropriate) to individuals who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss.
- Listen actively, showing empathy and compassion, and creating a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals to share their grief.
- Share your own experiences in a supportive and respectful manner, when appropriate, to help normalize and validate the individual’s feelings.
- Support participants in finding resources and encourage self-care practices that align with their unique grief journey.
- Communicate and collaborate with PAIL Network staff, sharing updates as needed while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of participants.
- Complete initial and ongoing training to enhance skills, including workshops on grief, trauma-informed care, and cultural sensitivity.
Qualifications:
- Personal experience with pregnancy or infant loss and a desire to support others going through similar experiences.
- Excellent listening and communication skills, with the ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support.
- Respect for confidentiality and boundaries, with an understanding of the importance of privacy in peer support relationships.
- Ability to commit to regular volunteer sessions, showing reliability and consistency.
- Willingness to participate in training, supervision, and support meetings as needed.
Training and Support:
- Comprehensive training on topics such as grief, trauma-informed care, effective communication, and cultural sensitivity.
- Ongoing support from PAIL Network staff and access to additional training opportunities.
- Regular check-ins and debriefing sessions to support volunteers in their role.
