Summary
Durham Family and Cultural Centre(DFCC) is a non-profit organization established in 2019. We provide a space for members of the Black community and other racialized and diverse groups to engage in programming that empowers their lives. DFCC has approximately 10 staff members who are overseen by an Executive Director who reports to the Board of Directors.
Description
DFCC is currently seeking 2-4 passionate persons dedicated individuals to join our Volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors oversees the organization's strategic direction and provides the Executive Director with operational support.
Desired Attributes
We are seeking persons who reflect the variety of the clients we serve. We seek those especially from the Black and racialized communities, indigenous persons members from the LGTBQ2+ community, and those with lived experience. A commitment to adhere to To DFCC's
obligation to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We are seeking directors with skills and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Fundraising – You have experience in non-profit fundraising, developing strategies for new revenue generation, growing membership and sponsorship programs, and developing partnerships.
• Law- You have experience and knowledge in non-profit law, cooperation. Experiences can be gained as a legal provider, paralegal, mediator, or policy expert, academic or otherwise.
• Grant Writer- You have experience and knowledge in grant writing for non-profit.
• Information Technology – You have IT skills and experience, including developing long-term strategic goals related to technology and service delivery to the public and members.
• Social Worker / Mental Health Worker- You have experience and knowledge in social work and practice.
Other attributes which are not mandatory but would be an asset include:
• Be a resident of Durham Region
• Governance experience (i.e., having served on other boards)
• French language proficiency
• Background in social services, law, finance, business, marketing and/or fundraising
• Be able to build consensus and constructively contribute to meetings and deliberations of the board.
About The Role Commitment
DFCC directors serve on staggered two-year terms (renewable). Board members are expected to attend and participate fully in monthly meetings and be asked to serve on one or more committees. Meetings are currently virtual but may be hybrid or occasionally fully in-person in the future.

Position Overview:
Ajax Soccer Club is seeking an energetic and creative Marketing, Social Media, and Events Organizer to help elevate the club’s community presence, promote our programs, and organize exciting events for players and families. The ideal candidate will be passionate about youth sports, social media savvy, and have strong skills in event planning and community engagement.
This role plays a key part in connecting the club to the broader community, enhancing member experiences, and supporting club growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Marketing & Communications:

Develop and execute marketing campaigns to promote soccer programs, tournaments, and club initiatives.

Design promotional materials such as flyers, newsletters, and digital content.

Write and distribute press releases and club announcements.
Social Media Management:

Manage the club’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).

What is the event?
The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is a 5k or 1k walk or run. It is the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada in support of the breast cancer cause. This year’s event will be taking place on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Committee Member Overview:
You are passionate about the breast cancer cause, well-connected in your community, and enjoy event planning. The ideal candidate for this volunteer role has a positive attitude, communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong sense of self-motivation and time management.

- Must be available in-person over the event weekend (October 4 & October 5).
- Promoting our programs and workshops on social networks and monitor engagement (e.g. comments and shares)
- Creating and distributing marketing copy to advertise our projects
- Writing blog posts about our inititatives and events
- Ultimately, you will help us reach our target audience by delivering both useful and appealing online information regarding our events, workshops and programs.
- Identify community needs and recomend new topics
Requirements:
- A student involved in the above areas of study, seeking to get hands on experience

- Anyone with experience and a willingness to get involved with community work.

TCEP hosts both public and private special events including receptions and seated dinners. Event Support volunteers will assist with event preparation including cleaning the facility, decorating, setting tables/​moving furniture, and promoting (if applicable). Skilled Event Support volunteers may also assist at an event to either host, serve tables, do dishes, or tend the juice bar – depending on volunteer training and event requirements.

Committee members take ownership of fundraising and contribute significantly to TCEP corporate sponsorship, personal giving, fundraising events and other campaigns. They leverage personal or professional networks, practice event planning skills, and help get people excited about healthy wholesome food! The committee convenes once every 4 to 6 weeks, and members are expected to attend at least 75% of those meetings.

The Board of Directors represents the leaders of our agency and serves as a working board that oversees the long term strategic vision and overall health of the organization. Directors approve the organization’s philosophy and continually review the management’s performance while working toward agency goals. The Board of Directors will also annually review and approve plans for funding in view of organizational goals. Over 100 municipalities in Ontario have declared intimate partner violence an epidemic. We hope that this sends a loud message to women silently suffering that they are acknowledged and heard, and that the community is working to build and improve resources so that they can improve their lives. These declarations are important, but we must continue to speak out for appropriate resources and laws that will protect women, so our work is not finished.
We are a not for profit registered charity organization. Directors participate in monthly meetings including administrative duties, fundraising initiatives, public events and approval of successful crime stoppers tips.
Designing social media content for our platform that are engaging with current trends and opportunities to increase brand exposure for our company.

We are seeking volunteers to help out at the adoption centre in Pickering at Petsmart . Duties include:
- cleaning cat cages, litter pans, ensuring cats have fresh food and water
- keeping centre clean
- brushing, socializing and playing with cats
- Spending time interacting and socializing shyer cats
- talking to public about cats, and potential adopters about adoptable cats
- assisting with the adoption process for cats approved for adoption
- communicating with fellow volunteers about any information needed and arranging coverage for any absences
As a board member, you will be required to:
- Be an advocate for the organization.
- Attend quarterly board meetings – please note that currently most of the meetings are held online and when in person, they are held in the Oshawa area.
- Actively serve on at least one Board committee and support committee initiatives.
- Attend and support fundraising and project initiatives when possible.
We are particularly interested in board members with the following:
- Experience in finance and accounting; a licensed Chartered Public Accountant is an asset.
- Expertise and experience in Human Resources.
- Legal expertise, particularly in non-profit law.

- Any experience or expertise in DEIA is considered an asset.

FOOTPRINTS 4 Autism is a nonprofit registered charity serving Durham Region. We offer respite and recreational programs for families with children and youth on the autism spectrum. We are currently growing from a Steering Committee to a Governance Board, and looking for new members to join our Board.
We need Board members in the following areas: Marketing, Communications, Fund Development, Finance and Secretary. For a 2-year commitment.
Board meetings are held once-a-month in Whitby. We have a virtual option as well. Members can choose roles in Marketing & Communications, Fund Development, Finance, Human Resources and ad-hoc Project sub-committees.
