Afiwi Groove School is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Volunteer Grant Writer to support our mission of providing high-quality arts education and cultural programming. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to government agencies, foundations, and corporate sponsors, helping to secure funding that sustains and expands our programs.
Position Type: Volunteer (Virtual & In-Person)
Time Commitment: 10–15 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and identify funding opportunities from government, corporate, and private foundation sources
- Write, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports
- Maintain a grants calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with leadership to gather program data, budgets, and impact stories
- Ensure compliance with all grant requirements and guidelines
- Prepare and submit timely grant reports and funding updates
- Build and maintain relationships with funders and partners
- Track and document all grant activity and outcomes
Qualifications:
- Proven experience writing successful grant proposals, particularly with government and corporate funders
- Strong research, writing, and editing skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with nonprofit operations and funding structures
- Ability to translate program goals into compelling narratives
- Strong organizational and project management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in arts, education, or community-based organizations
- Knowledge of Canadian government grant systems (federal, provincial, and municipal)
- Experience working with diverse communities and cultural programs

If you're a youth aged 14-19, this could be for you!
Our social media is one of our primary communication platforms, and we’re looking for youth interested in helping us to grow it with fun, relevant, and informational content about food and sustainability! You will be able to co-lead our Instagram page (@youthinfoodsystems) by conducting research, creating posts, and (optional) interacting with our audience.
Time commitment: 6 month minimum, 2+ post designs / month on a self-selected schedule
All volunteers will join our Discord server and have opportunities to attend virtual team meetings and workshops.

The Board of Directors represents the leaders of our agency and serves as a working board that oversees the long term strategic vision and overall health of the organization. Directors approve the organization’s philosophy and continually review the management’s performance while working toward agency goals. The Board of Directors will also annually review and approve plans for funding in view of organizational goals. Board members have a list of responsibilities that they renew every year during the annual election at our Annual General Meeting.

Developing fundraising programs

Recruiting sponsors and volunteers to assist with fundraising activities.

Maintaining relationships with current donors

Planning and overseeing campaigns and events to raise money and other kinds of donations

Work closely with Social Media Coordinator to advertise and promote fundraising events, along with summary of events after events are complete (including funds raised)

Building relationships and exploring new fundraising opportunities

Accountable for ensuring funds raised from events are submitted to TAGS administration in a timely manner.

Provide Volunteer Coordinator with regular volunteer status updates should a volunteer under your functional area resign

Updating SharePoint docs on a regular basis
