Volunteer Position Title: Food Bank Volunteer
Location: CFOC– Doors of Compassion (CFOC-DOC), Ajax HUB
Reports To: Food Bank Coordinator
Time Commitment: Flexible – Minimum 4/8 hours weekly/biweekly preferred
Position Summary:
The Food Bank Volunteer plays a key role in supporting CFOC-DOC’s efforts to provide nutritious food and essential groceries to individuals and families facing food insecurity. This position involves assisting with sorting, organizing, and distributing food items to ensure that clients have access to the resources they need. Volunteers will also help maintain the food bank space to ensure it is clean, organized, and welcoming for all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receiving and Sorting Food Donations: Help receive, sort, and categorize incoming food donations (e.g., non-perishable items, fresh produce, dairy, etc.), ensuring that they meet health and safety standards.
- Inventory Management: Track food inventory levels, helping to maintain accurate records and ensuring that food items are used in a timely manner before expiration.
- Organizing the Food Bank: Keep the food bank area tidy and well-organized, ensuring that food items are displayed clearly by category (e.g., canned goods, dry goods, produce) and are easily accessible for clients.
- Food Package Preparation: Assist with the preparation of food packages for clients, ensuring that each package includes a variety of nutritious and appropriate items based on client needs.
- Client Assistance: Greet clients with respect and dignity, helping them select food items and providing support as needed while maintaining confidentiality and a non-judgmental approach.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all food handling and storage procedures comply with health and safety standards, including checking for expired items, proper refrigeration of perishables, and cleanliness of the food bank area.
- Food Drive Support: Assist with the organization and promotion of food drives, including sorting and packaging donated items and coordinating with other volunteers during special events.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other volunteers and staff to ensure that food distribution runs smoothly and clients receive the support they need.
- Documentation and Reporting: Help track food donations and distributions, maintaining records as needed for inventory purposes or reporting to donors and partners.
This position is a game night volunteer position. These positions will involve a variety of tasks such as taking tickets at the door, handling merchandise, helping kids with a frisbee toss game that is held during a break in the game and other duties as assigned. This position is ideal for high school students who are required to complete community hours.

Summary
Durham Family and Cultural Centre(DFCC) is a non-profit organization established in 2019. We provide a space for members of the Black community and other racialized and diverse groups to engage in programming that empowers their lives. DFCC has approximately 10 staff members who are overseen by an Executive Director who reports to the Board of Directors.

DFCC is currently seeking 2-4 passionate persons dedicated individuals to join our Volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors oversees the organization's strategic direction and provides the Executive Director with operational support.

• Fundraising – You have experience in non-profit fundraising, developing strategies for new revenue generation, growing membership and sponsorship programs, and developing partnerships.
• Law- You have experience and knowledge in non-profit law, cooperation. Experiences can be gained as a legal provider, paralegal, mediator, or policy expert, academic or otherwise.
• Grant Writer- You have experience and knowledge in grant writing for non-profit.
• Information Technology – You have IT skills and experience, including developing long-term strategic goals related to technology and service delivery to the public and members.
• Social Worker / Mental Health Worker- You have experience and knowledge in social work and practice.
Other attributes which are not mandatory but would be an asset include:
• Be a resident of Durham Region
• Governance experience (i.e., having served on other boards)
• French language proficiency
• Background in social services, law, finance, business, marketing and/or fundraising
• Be able to build consensus and constructively contribute to meetings and deliberations of the board.
About The Role Commitment
DFCC directors serve on staggered two-year terms (renewable). Board members are expected to attend and participate fully in monthly meetings and be asked to serve on one or more committees. Meetings are currently virtual but may be hybrid or occasionally fully in-person in the future.

Summary of Role
As a Bingo/Casino volunteer you will be representing the DRCC at a local Ontario Lottery Gaming location and acting as an advocate and with general customer service skills. The DRCC is fortunate to receive a portion of profits through the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association, and as such we are required to represent our organization at a local OLG business during our set hours. You will be provided a collared shirt/vest, name tag, and will be sharing information about the DRCC, and supporting general operations at the gaming location.
Role Responsibilities
● Attend general DRCC training/orientation
● Represent DRCC as an advocate during set hours (2 hour shifts)

HELP volunteers will be trained to support patients with delirium prevention at the Oshawa Hospital.
As a member of a customer-focused volunteer team, you will welcome patients and visitors to Lakeridge Health, provide them with appropriate and required assistance to find their destination within the hospital, and learn about the services and departments in the hospital. Please note this is role requires standing and walking.
Volunteers provide support by interacting with patients in group settings. You will assist recreation therapists by helping with cognitive or creative activities such as games, arts, crafts, and music. These volunteers also assist with escorting patients to common areas for socialization and events.
Committee members take ownership of fundraising and contribute significantly to TCEP corporate sponsorship, personal giving, fundraising events and other campaigns. They leverage personal or professional networks, practice event planning skills, and help get people excited about healthy wholesome food! - Provide emotional support through one-on-one phone calls, online meetings, or in-person (as appropriate) to individuals who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss.
- Listen actively, showing empathy and compassion, and creating a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals to share their grief.
- Share your own experiences in a supportive and respectful manner, when appropriate, to help normalize and validate the individual’s feelings.
- Support participants in finding resources and encourage self-care practices that align with their unique grief journey.
- Communicate and collaborate with PAIL Network staff, sharing updates as needed while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of participants.
- Complete initial and ongoing training to enhance skills, including workshops on grief, trauma-informed care, and cultural sensitivity.
Qualifications:
- Personal experience with pregnancy or infant loss and a desire to support others going through similar experiences.
- Excellent listening and communication skills, with the ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support.
- Respect for confidentiality and boundaries, with an understanding of the importance of privacy in peer support relationships.
- Ability to commit to regular volunteer sessions, showing reliability and consistency.
- Willingness to participate in training, supervision, and support meetings as needed.

Saturday Only. Mornings- 8:45 am-12:45 pm and afternoons- 1:15pm to 5:15pm
What would your typical day look like?
· set up area prior to children arriving
· Provide one on one supervision – a volunteer with one ASD child.
· Helping the child choose their activities and develop socialization skills through fun learning.
· After the session: Clean up and sanitize toys, debrief.
Ideal for high school students interested in working with ASD or adults with ASD children or have an interest in working with ASD, gaining experience for post-secondary students including ECE, Social Work/Service, Psychology students, Teachers for example.
What can I expect from being a FOOTPRINTS Volunteer?
Volunteering with ASD children is a contribution to the community and one of the most rewarding experiences.
** We provide complete training to our volunteers including Level C CPR/First Aid.
You bring a sense of happiness to an autistic child and real-life experience working with ASD children, while gaining team building and leadership skills. If you are a high school student going into post-secondary or a college or university student, volunteering with FOOTPRINTS builds industry recognized experience on your resume. As an adult volunteer your impact on an ASD child’s life is immeasurable.

Support the visitors' program experience by assisting with crafts and activities, way finding, building interpretation, setup/take down.
Assist staff by helping out at community events in Durham Region work in shifts to help staff the CCD booth for a few hours pick up and/or return CCD booth and materials to the local Hub * booth set-up and/or tear down * greet and engage with visitors to the booth * converse with visitors in promoting volunteering, services and other CCD initiatives
Assist with special event fundraisers * sponsorship recruitment * donor relations, stewardship * marketing, communications
During the Covid-19 pandemic, though we have fewer volunteer opportunities than usual, we are still accepting full volunteer applications
Attend assigned charity bingo sessions on our behalf * 2 hour bingo sessions that work with your schedule * duties involved include light cleaning and providing customer service
Act as a community liaison and collaborate with like-minded individuals to raise awareness * plan education events * plan fundraising events such as the Gutsy Walk
Sort donations * ensure tidiness of store * duties as assigned
