Role
Afiwi Groove School is seeking a passionate and organized Volunteer Communications Lead to help strengthen the organization’s voice and storytelling. This role will focus on developing engaging content that highlights our programs, youth achievements, and community impact through newsletters, articles, and website updates.
The Communications Lead will play an important role in helping Afiwi share its mission, grow its audience, and keep the community informed about programs, events, and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage Afiwi Groove School’s communications strategy.
- Create and distribute a monthly or quarterly newsletter to share updates, program highlights, and upcoming events.
- Write articles and stories that highlight youth achievements, community partnerships, and program impact.
- Create and update content for the Afiwi Groove School website, including blog posts, program updates, and announcements.

Event Planner Support (Volunteer)
Overview
Afiwi Groove School is seeking an Event Planner to support the planning and execution of our June 28 Showcase at the Regent Theatre.
This role focuses on coordinating logistics, timelines, and team communication to help deliver a smooth, organized, and memorable experience across two shows.
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning & Coordination
- Support overall showcase planning and execution
- Maintain timeline, track tasks, and coordinate meetings
- Ensure alignment across instructors, production, and volunteers
2. Event Logistics
- Coordinate event-day flow (check-in, seating, timing)
- Support front-of-house and backstage coordination
- Help develop the run-of-show and event-day schedule
3. Vendor Coordination
- Liaise with vendors (decor, media, signage, etc.)
- Confirm timing, deliverables, and logistics
- Track follow-ups and outstanding needs
4. Volunteer Support
- Help organize event-day volunteer roles (ushers, check-in, runners)
- Create simple shift schedules for two shows
- Support communication and orientation
5. Event Day (June 28)
- Provide on-site coordination for setup, both shows, and pack-down

The Board of Directors represents the leaders of our agency and serves as a working board that oversees the long term strategic vision and overall health of the organization. Directors approve the organization’s philosophy and continually review the management’s performance while working toward agency goals. Board members have a list of responsibilities that they renew every year during the annual election at our Annual General Meeting.

Time Commitment
We ask for a minimum commitment of four presentations each month, which is between eight to twelve hours monthly. Volunteers must have daytime availability and provide four morning or afternoon slots to present during school hours.

- A vehicle in good working order will be required for this role.
- Access to a personal tech device on a secure Wi-Fi network.

EmpowHER is a dynamic leadership and mentorship program designed to equip young women and LGBTQ2+ individuals (ages 12–30) with the skills, networks, and opportunities to excel in their chosen fields. This hybrid program (both virtual and in-person) provides hands-on experiences with civic action.
EmpowHER is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected refugees who are passionate about civic engagement and making a meaningful impact in their communities. Participants will engage in real-world projects, leadership training, and mentorship opportunities that foster growth and empowerment.
The Minds in Motion Program is a community based program that provides both physical and mental stimulation for persons living with early to mid stage dementia who are accompanied by their carepartners.The focus is on improving physical and cognitive functioning while reducing feelings of isolation through social engagement programming. Volunteers assist with a 60 minute exercise program and co-facilitate a 60 minute mentally/socially stimulating activity.
