Durham RegionAs a food bank support volunteer, you’ll play a key role in supporting Nourish House Food Bank by helping pack client food orders, keeping shelves stocked, organizing donations, vacuum packing large quantities into more manageable amounts, and creating a friendly, welcoming space for folks who visit us.
Must be able to:
• Lift 40 lbs when needed
• Stand for the duration of the shift and sustain repetitive physical movements
• Adhere to required Health and Safety procedures
• Maintain client confidentiality
• Be able to stay calm and patient in fast-paced or challenging situations
• Basic computer skills, including entering data and managing appointments in
online systems
• Awareness of basic food safety practices and safe handling of food
We are looking to fill the role of a volunteer cook or sous chef positions that will help lead the back of the kitchen during the morning shifts to prepare the meal for the afternoon shift. This position includes:
- Being at the kitchen from 9:00am-1:00pm Monday
- Assigning duties to sous chefs
- Preparing the meal and checking food temperatures
- Following Canada’s Food Handling Procedures and the Health Department Guidelines
- Filling out forms for food cooked that day
- Cleaning up your station before you leave
- Please be advised that we are looking for long term volunteers. This position is not temporary, and we are hoping to find volunteers that are able to make a long-term commitment. Upon finding ideal candidates, training will be provided.

SuperWalk is Parkinson’s largest annual fundraiser, raising vital funds for support, advocacy, and research for people living with and impacted by Parkinson’s.
As a SuperWalk Event Day Volunteer, you will work alongside a local Volunteer Event Coordinator and/or Committee. You will play an important part in ensuring a successful event and raising the profile of Parkinson’s in your community.
Volunteer roles include:

- Registration
- Greeters
- Food services
- Entertainment support
- Checkpoint stations
- Cheering on SuperWalkers!
Time Commitment
The Durham Parkinson Canada SuperWalk is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2026, with activities taking place between 12:00pm and 2:00pm. The time commitment for this opportunity varies according SuperWalk activities and your availability. Volunteers will be contacted closer to the event to confirm their shift time, role, and event details.

How You Can Help:
- Provide psychosocial support to help children develop coping skills and build resilience.
- Provide fun, educational, creative, and safe experiences for children.
- Commit to a minimum of six (6) months to ensure stability during a parent’s cancer treatment and recovery.

- Must reside in Ontario.
There's a family in your community waiting for their very own Angel!
On the first day, volunteers clear shelter items from cabinets, take down and disinfect beds, and reset the area. The following day, volunteers transport beds from the sanctuary to the foyer. On day two, volunteers make up the beds and complete the shelter set-up.
The work is hands-on and involves lifting, bending, and moving equipment. Two-person lifts are required for bed frames. Closed-toe shoes are needed, and gloves are provided for handling linens and cleaning products. Volunteers work under the direction of the site supervisor and are not in a client-facing role on these shifts, though confidentiality applies to anything seen or overheard in the space.
Market setup and takedown

Set up tables, produce displays, signage, and the checkout area before doors open

Unload and arrange stock; carry boxes and containers to the market floor

Handle items with care to prevent damage or spoilage, and report damaged goods or packaging issues right away

Restock and tidy displays throughout the afternoon so the market stays full and welcoming until close

Pack down the market at the end of service, return unsold stock to the correct storage location, and leave the space clean and ready for the next shift
Welcome and patron support

Greet patrons warmly at the door and orient first-time visitors to how the market works

Answer questions about available items, quantities, and market guidelines

Support patrons in accessing the items they need, offering choice wherever possible, and offer a hand with bags or carts

Keep the market floor calm, respectful, and welcoming for everyone, including during busy periods
Intake and checkout

Support sign-in and registration for new and returning patrons

Our share and care room is a spacious room in which we keep baby clothes, baby gear, maternity clothes, food, etc. that is donated to us from our amazing community. Our clients make appointments to visit the room and take what they need at no charge. Volunteers help the clients with their appointments and assist them while "shopping" by helping with their children, helping them find things, etc. The role would also include receiving and sorting donations, and keeping the room organized. The time commitment would be every Wednesday from 12:45-3:00.
Description:
Visit prospective foster/adoption applicants in their home environment to assess safety and suitability for adoptable pets.
Responsible for reviewing program requirements and ensuring proper protocol is met during each stage of the process.
The time commitment for this position is approximately 3-4 hours per week but can vary week by week depending on how many interviews you are needed for. Note that this position is a progressive role, and all volunteers must finish the home visit orientation prior to placement on the schedule. You will start as a secondary and move into the primary role once thoroughly trained and feel comfortable taking the lead during the in-home interview process. Home visits typically include the primary home visit volunteer, secondary and the foster parent who accompanies the animal in care.
Responsibilities:
● Reviewing all adoption applications
● Contacting applicants and fosters to coordinate a home visit time that suits all parties
● Review with foster and home visit volunteers if there are any concerns throughout the process
● Be the liaison between fosters, volunteers and adoption applicants
● Complete a report after the HV that requires approval from administration before the applicant can progress
through the application process.
● Follow up towards middle of the week and ask their intentions for adoption
● Set up adoption appointments at TAGS, reminder to bring all TAGS supplies back
● Review all agreements with applicants and receive signatures
● Travel to each applicant place of residence to hold initial and follow-up interviews
● Help to train new HV volunteers as they job shadow

The Meet & Greet is Step #1 in the adoption process. It’s the first meeting between an adoptable dog and his/her potential adopters, and our opportunity to see how they interact with each other. The M&G Volunteer chairs the meeting, supports the foster, provides information to the applicants, assesses the applicants, and
provides feedback to the Adoption Team.
Responsibilities:
Preparing for the meeting by reviewing the application & reference checks, the dog’s bio, and other information posted by the foster and making note of anything that should be confirmed or discussed further with the applicants.
Arriving early to open up the portable and set up chairs if necessary. Tidying up and closing portable after the meeting.
Greeting the applicants and introducing them to the foster and the dog
Helping to safely introduce the dog to the applicants’ dog(s) if applicable.
Familiarizing the applicants with the TAGS facilities (dog park, training portable, admin portable).
Assisting and encouraging the foster to provide information about their dog (Breed, age, history, temperament, feeding, exercise requirements, etc.).
Interviewing the applicants using questions provided on the Meet & Greet Questionnaire
Observing how the applicants, their children and dogs interact with the foster dog.
Providing the applicants with info about TAGS and the steps in the adoption process: The M&G, The Home Visit, EV, and FTA
Explaining the mandatory Training Classes and what’s covered
Discussing TAGS’s holistic approach to health care, and providing information on the dangers of flea, Tick and heartworm meds, and over vaccination.
Explaining the adoption fees and what’s included.
Determining - with the foster’s input - whether or not the applicants are suitable for the dog based on their interview answers, their ability to meet the dog’s needs, how they interacted with the dog, etc.
Providing a report to the Adoption Team with a synopsis of the meeting, any concerns, and an opinion on whether or not the adoption should move forward.
Drive clients to medical appointments, shopping, errands, etc. * support CCD services by driving clients to Luncheon Out and Adult Day Program sites
Become a facilitator and work as a team to support those with emotional or mental health concerns in a group setting* support groups take place in-person and virtually during the week * extensive training required
