Duties

Our Crisis Response Volunteers assist our Crisis Intervention Counsellors on-site when they respond to police requests for victim assistance * Crisis responders provide emotional support and community referrals to victims of violent crime, and those impacted by sudden tragedy like the death of a loved one * We provide crisis assistance to victims, their families and witnesses.

Benefits Volunteer crisis responders receive extensive training on crisis intervention, trauma, grief and bereavement and providing emotional support.
Clients Our clients are people experiencing unthinkable tragedy and hardship. Our crisis responders provide immediate emotional support during a crisis and assist clients in accessing longer term supports in the community.

Number of Positions Durham Region 
 
Victim Services of Durham Region serves the entire region of Durham. Volunteers are required to have access to a reliable and insured vehicle to get them to the scene when we are called for service, and this could be at any location in the region.
Training Orientation ; Training is provided ; Training is required ; Scheduled training ; Training on-going ; Intakes are done twice yearly, generally in the spring and fall. If you apply and have missed the most recent intake, your application will be kept on file for the next intake
Transportation Driver License required ; Car required ; Volunteers are required to have access to a reliable and insured vehicle, and will be required to travel to provide on-scene support for victims and their families to any location in the Region of Durham.
